Manic Gardening

Manic Gardening

Plucking, cracking, wrecking

Wrestling among wild carnations

rising disorderly behind a cornflower maze

The dry aerial foliage might save

the fine beating lines deep within their paper-thin skin

Before steadily growing rosemary in thick confines

were deadly winters abruptly sprung to spring

The whole world forever ruptures into an ever-endless spin

Trapped underneath Anemone’s cautious skin

I found her mournful lady slippers left outside to dry

I hope she reached down and breathed in deep

the soft smell of sweet roots growing from her uneasy sleep

She always nursed little Lily of the valley

And taught me how bluebells learn to ring from fear

Tangled, fresh vegetables she left behind

silently form familiar flowerbeds around me

they become longer, growing

in deeper with each passing year
